19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after spring of 2023.

The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour victory, took control to force a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
